FROM CAREER – A SAWAAL TO ‘CAREERSAWAAL’ !!

Standing   there   tall  and  proud,  a  metaphor  to  “Rainbow  in  the  grey  sky “  is  “Venture  Studio  in  monochromatic  world”.  With  it’s  lush  green  lawns,  bizarre  brown  furniture  and  colorfully  coordinated  walls  it  is  a  place  where  we  practice  our  art  rather  than  just  work.  And  on  my  yet  another  exciting  day  here  as  I  approach  her  for  my  next  story,  Shimoni  Shah,  CEO and  co-founder  at  ‘CAREERSAWAAL’  a  boon  to  all  the  confused  students  out  there,  greets  me  with  a  beaming  face  and  friendly  smile.

SHIMONI SHAH -ON HER STARTUP JOURNEY......

SHIMONI SHAH -ON HER STARTUP JOURNEY……

Born  and  brought  up  in  a  typical  Gujarati  Jain  family,  entrepreneurship   is  in  her  blood,  but  her  accidental  acquaintance  to  it  is  what  makes  for  an  interesting  story.  Plucking   ideas,  nurturing  them,  and  finally  wanting  to  see  them  grow  into  something  tall  is  what  she  has  done  to  almost  everything:  be  it  her  makeup  course  ,  skating  or  dancing. Wanting  to  make  a  career  in  almost  every  new  thing  she  took  up she  has  been  a  free  soul  moving  from  this  dream  to  that. It  was  while  she  was  working  upon  her  final  year  B.Com  project,  that  she  hit  upon  the  idea  of  taking  it  further  and  converting  it  into  a  full-fledged  startup. They  say  that  “Destiny  makes  you  swim  through  oceans  you  doubted  you’ll  even  ever  visit.” Venture  Studio  was  yet  another  thing  which  was  made  to  cross her  path  (accidentally!).  So  with  destiny  taking  turns,  CAREERSAWAAL  started  to  take  up  form  and  has  come  a  long,  long  way  from  school  students  to  youngsters  ,  from  offline  mode  to  online  one. And  in  her  6-month  long  journey  the  person  she  has  grown  into  is what  not  only  her  but  her  parents  also  adore. From  being  an  emotional  freak  to  someone  with  a  practical  perspective  of  looking  at  things,  a  good  decision-maker  and  fiercely  independent   at   the  same  time  keeping  warm,  friendly ,  carefree,  bold  and  fun-loving  self  intact  she’s  taken  quite  a  leap.

When  quipped  about  something  which  she  wishes  to  tell  the  people  out  there ,  pat  comes  the  reply, “Youngsters  today  wish  to  jump  into  a  field  due  to  various  reasons- sometime  friends,  parents , or  just  because  something  captures  their  attention  and  they  yearn  to  conquer  the  world. They  fail  to  understand  the  dynamics  of  what  they  choose. They  need  to  understand  that  career  is  solely  about  you  and  what  you  can  actually  do  without  panicking  for  at least 6  months  at  a  stretch  and  at  the  same  time  effortlessly  improve  upon  the  same. When  every  waking  bit  of  yours  is  spent  pondering  on  it , it’s  simple,  ‘IT’S  YOUR  THING’. You  have  to  research , look  for  internships,  do  what  it  takes,  in  short  explore  and  work ,  work  hard  and  trust  me  on  this, “If  something  or  someone  is  meant  to  be  it’ll  be be  and  if  not  just  move  on  with  your  lessons. At  the  end  of  the  day  it  is  either  you  win  or  you  learn!!!  Never  fear  giving up.”

“To  parents  it’s  just  that  the  world  is  changing  and  with  the  amount  of  hype  going  on  let  your  children  take  their  time  and  if  they  are  firm   about  something  just  bid  on  that  ,  give  them  a  chance  and  just  let  them  fly!! Their  first  “I  want  to  be this…”  is  like  our  first  love. It  happens  only  once. So  just  let  them  be !!”, she  reflects  pondering  over  how  once  upon  a  time  she  wanted  to  be  a  pilot,  her  first  dream.

Considering  she  put  her  best  foot  forward,  this  journey  also  was  not  that  easy  for  her,  considering  the  many  challenges  it  brought  alongside, but  with  her  friend  Smit  Prajapati  and  twin  sister  Shaini  by  her side  the  tough  times  were  sailed  through  by  her. “Shaini  is  my  inspiration. She  is  someone  I  reach  for  when  things  seem  messed  up. She  says  it  all  and  I  feel  at  peace  to  continue  my  journey. And  with  Smit  it  is  just “Shimoni  you  are  strong ,  you  can  do  it.” Recalling  it  I  feel  strong  enough  to  continue  work.”

And  as  I  ask  her  about  the  best  part  of  her  journey,  with  proud  eyes  she  says,”During  the  course  of  this  journey  , once  we  were  called  to  my  college  for  a  lecture  on  entrepreneurship  and  it  was  a  sight  to  gaze  with  the  auditorium  entirely  full  and  each  and  every  ear  actually  listening  to  what  I  had  to  say. Being  on  the  other  side  of  the  table  was  actually  a  good  feel.”

Considering  the  very  wise  lessons  during  her  journey  she  says ,  “ It’s  been  enlightening  and  of  course  I  have  stumbled  upon,  fell  down  just  to  get  up  and  walk  again. Few  of  them  being…

  • The  pain  we  are  in  today  builds  the  strength  for  tomorrow. It  is  the  effort  we  put  into  small  things  that  helps  us  form  the  big  picture.
  • If  you  don’t  have  a  dream  you  are  nowhere  but  with  one  in  your  fist  you  can  take  over  the  world.
  •  Never   judge  a  book  by  it’s  cover. At  the  end  of  the  day  a  person  is  what  his  dreams  make  out  of  him.
  •  And  the  best  of  all ‘Contacts  se  friends  nahi  bante  friends  se  contacts  bante  hai!!’” And  on  this  very  wise  note ,  she  signs  off  leaving  me  with  only  one  thing  to  ponder  upon that  “Age  is  just  a  number.”

And  with  all  the  lessons  in  her  pocket ,  and  an  ever  ready  and  active  team , CAREERSAWAAL  has  come  out  with  bright  colours. So  all  the  confused  souls  out  there,  an  answer  to  all  your  questions  and  much  more  ,  here  you  go – IT’S  CAREERSAWAAL  FOR  YOU !! They  are  just  a  message  away , with  all  the  experts  and  wise  people ,  seminars  and  workshops, passion  and  profession. So  don’t  wait  until  you  get  done  and  dusted and  make  yourself  a  right  career.

Coming  back ,  today somehow  my  work  seemed  dearer  and  my  workplace  –  an  answer  to  my  countless dreams.  And  that  is  what  CAREERSAWAAL  does  to  all ,  am  I  right  or  am  I  right??
