Amidst the sprawling college campuses , beaming faces , buzzing mouths, the cool lingo, and the lip smacking stalls… there lies in the heart of Ahmedabad, a house to countless dreams of budding entrepreneurs, innovators, risk takers – VENTURE STUDIO.
As I hastily reach there for my first interview with Joohi Kacha, COO at AUTOMINT with her simplicity and friendly smile puts me at ease. And as we start our talk , more questions pop in and out listening to her journey which is nothing less then an adventure !!
Born and brought up in the city of Gandhiji, pols, dandiya, dhokla and aamras ; deeply rooted yet fast paced – Ahmedabad , Joohi is a software engineer and now much more. An avid reader, writer , traveler, and a techno freak at heart Joohi worked upon a number of technical projects during her so called care-free college days. She worked as a freelancer as well not just to gain experience but also for her own contentment and kept her creative juices flowing.
“It’s so amazing to see the energy we gain and the work … nah…..soul we put in once we find our true calling.”
With a great job and a hefty package the excited geek in her got placed in a well known firm but an entrepreneur at heart , which she was, she took a leap. A BIG ONE. By leaving her job to do something on her own.
In not more than a month her colleague cum husband , Viral Kacha, too gave up his job and along with his brother , Anand Kacha, a team of three was built. And off they began a journey unknown , with tough challenges , sharp bends, but loads of excitement .
6 months of ferocious research , hundreds of experiments and a thousand garage visits later Venture Studio happened. By then a vague picture of ‘AUTOMINT’ had taken form but with Venture Studio in the scenario things started to seem brighter. They finally got a place away from their place (pun intended) to be called an office and of course all the perks which came along with it. When quipped about the ‘flies in the ointment’ , the domain shift was quite a challenge , from computer to automobile , from coding to clutches and brakes it surely demanded a lot more than just effort. Hailing from technical background and now into marketing , Joohi wholeheartedly accepted the jaunt being tough . “Market research was not my cup of tea but with great mentors , approachable people and strong will power, we did it!” A supportive family, great friends and a cool workplace added colors to the picture. When quizzed about the mistakes they made she tells that they made plenty of them . “Only then you tend to learn!” , says Joohi with an anchored smile. She reflects that their biggest mistake was recruiting wrong people which they gradually converted as their strength.
On a curious note, I asked her what she would like to advise to start-up enthusiasts and beginners and she says , “Start-up isn’t about you having an idea one fine night and you start working upon it for two weeks just to end up with a new idea. It is about sticking to your idea, executing it , being persistent , hardworking and just get going no matter what!”
So now with a small yet strong team ‘AUTOMINT’ is getting thumbs up and when asked about the big picture with a sparkle in her eyes she says, “ I just want to be more learned , more knowledgeable each and every day . It’s not only about the product but also about the person I have grown into which matters.
On a lighter note a multi-million company, a beach side villa and the best of brands is what I wish to possess.”, saying this she signs off leaving me with a tinkling sense of humanity goals!!!
